Applicants may only be admitted to PhD studies if they are able to fully fund their entire study programme. Two main kinds of student finance are available:

Faculty funding

When the faculty funds your PhD studies, you will be employed as a PhD student.

External funding

If you intend to finance your PhD by means of external funding, i.e. from a source other than the Faculty of Languages, the Faculty Board must approve your admission to the PhD programme. Externally funded PhD students are either employed as PhD students within a particular project or similar, or pursue PhD studies within their regular employment.
